Edinburgh taxi driver in final of 'Spectacle Wearer of the Year'

Maureen Clegg, a semi-finalist in the 45-59 age category, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday to New York if she wins as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 21st annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards hosted by Specsavers.

Hide AdMaureen is one of just ten regional semi-finalists from across Scotland.
Speaking on the competition she said: ‘I forgot I applied for the competition so was very pleasantly surprised when I received the call to tell me I was a regional semi-finalist.
‘I have been wearing glasses since I was five years old and was bullied as a child, even by my brothers. But now I wear my glasses with pride.
‘I can’t wait to hear if I’ve made it through to the final stages of the competition.”

Hide AdTo celebrate, her local opticians presented her with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date.
