Goodburn was unable to attend the award ceremony in Edinburgh due to his commitments down south but younger sister Katie, 16, received the trophy on his behalf and then telephoned her brother with the news.
“It really is fantastic to get this award and it was a lovely surprise and a real boost as I am in Sheffield preparing for the English Winter
Championships,” the 18 year-old said.
Ewan Wilson, a 16 year-old sailor from Wormit in Fife, won the Miquel Trophy at the ceremony, for the most improved young athlete in Scotland.
