Indian restaurant brand Ronaq has opened a spectacular new venture in the heart of the £150 million New Waverley development.

Ronaq, which first launched in Edinburgh three years ago, is expanding its chain of restaurants into a glass-fronted corner site linking Cranston Street with East Market Street.

The new venue includes a large ground-level bar leading upstairs to a first-floor dining area seating up to 90 people, which is almost completely surrounded by floor to ceiling glass panels providing magnificent views across the Waverley Valley.

Ronaq’s director, Mohammed Shoaib, is confident that the new restaurant’s spectacular setting will be an eye-catching addition to the Old Town’s restaurant mix.

“This is a completely one-off space with a lovely open setting – yet situated just yards from the Royal Mile, one of the most iconic streets in the world and Waverley Station one of the busiest transport hubs in the UK,” he said.

“We have designed the restaurant to take full advantage of the views across Edinburgh, combined with a varied menu serving the best in contemporary and traditional Asian cuisine. It’s an amazing space bringing together the best of Edinburgh, both old and new, and we are looking forward to literally lighting up the Old Town,” he added.

Ronaq offers a tapas-style daytime menu, while at night the venue will be transformed into a bustling bar area serving Indian snacks and starters, accompanied by a more formal eating experience inspired by the British Raj.

New Waverley project director Clive Wilding said: “Ronaq will be a brilliant addition to the wonderful mix of restaurants, hotels and independent retailers which New Waverley is now delivering.

“New Waverley is now generating a genuine buzz around the city”
