Looking back into the past.

Simple Minds fans were wowed by their idols during a concert at Meadowbank Stadium in August 1989.

Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye magazine, was pictured outside the Festival Fringe Society.

He was in the Capital to review the 1989 Edinburgh Festival.

And workmen detached the one-and-a-half hundredweight “crown” from the top of the then North British Hotel.

It was removed to be restored to its former glory.
