Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking in the West of the city.

The incident happened around 11.55pm yesterday at an address in the Ladywell Court area.

An 87-year-old woman was within her home when she was awoken by noises coming from inside. She then saw a man making off from the property and contacted police.

It was later established that her handbag containing a quantity of cash had been taken during the break-in and anyone who can assist officers with their ongoing enquiry is asked to come forward.

Constable Daniel Lansley said: “This has been a very frightening experience for the victim, who was left very shaken after finding someone within her home.

“Fortunately, however, she was uninjured and we are now conducting various lines of enquiry to identify the suspect.

“Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the Ladywell Court area on Sunday evening, or who has any other information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
