AN advocate has gone on trial in the Capital charged with defrauding and attempting to defraud the Scottish Legal Aid Board of more than £54,000.
Mark Strachan, 55, pleaded not guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court during today’s hearing to making 355 alleged fraudulent claims between March 9, 2006, and November 16, 2010.
It is alleged Strachan, from Gentle’s Entry in Holyrood, received £13,394.60 for consultation fees, travel allowance and mileage from the Scottish Legal Aid Board to which he was not entitled.
He is also accused of wrongfully attempting to obtain £41,472.
The trial before Sheriff Kenneth Maciver is expected to last several weeks.
