MORE passengers passed through Edinburgh Airport last month than any October on record in a bumper finish to the high season.
A total of 917,437 people travelled through the transport hub for the month – an 8.7 per cent increase on October last year.
International passengers were up more than 11 per cent on last year with 489,373 passing through the airport on overseas routes. Domestic figures also rose by 4.6 per cent.
Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “Since May, we’ve welcomed almost six million passengers through our doors. Edinburgh and Scotland continue to remain places where people want to visit for work or leisure and we’re delighted to play our part as one of the main gateways to our country.”
Hoardings started going up at the airport last month as works on a £25 terminal expansion got under way. The project will deliver a revamped security area, new shops and 15 per cent more terminal space.
