ANDY Murray kept fans guessing after telling them on Twitter he was getting married after this year’s Wimbledon – before revealing it was all a hoax.
The tennis star was taking part in a Question and Answer session with fans when he was asked if he and Kim Sears had set a date for their wedding.
He replied to Twitter user Sarvana: “We are getting married just after Wimbledon. Should be a great day.”
One fan responded: “Good luck - Kim and you are a perfect couple.”
Federerfan18 wrote: “Aww! best of luck to you both.”
But given he also said he took drugs and wanted to kill arch-rival Rafael Nadal, many remained dubious.
And Murray – in San Diego on Davis Cup duty for Great Britain – soon put them out of their misery by tweeting: “3 things.. I don’t smoke grass, I’m not getting married (yet) and I don’t want to kill Rafael Nadal.”
In his autobiography, Andy Murray: Seventy Seven: My Road to Wimbledon Glory, released in November last year, Murray hinted that wedding bells may be around the corner for the couple.
In his book he wrote: “I would like to start a family and try to be a good father. That’s important to me. It’s something that I’m starting to think about because Kim and I have been together for eight years.”
Murray seemed in high spirits as he joked with his follower, even poking fun at his mum’s hair.
During the Q&A Murray also revealed that he would have liked to study in America had he not been a tennis player, and that chicken and mushroom pot noodles were his former lunch time favourites.
Murray then went on to joke with fans, with Claire Palmer asking Murray: “Who would you rather cut your hair, Kim or Judy?”
The Wimbledon champion replied: “Kim, judging by their respective hairdos.”
Murray and Sears first met at at the US Open in 2005, when Kim was on holiday with her tennis coach father, Nigel Sears.
