THE New Year will open in traditional style at the Scottish National Gallery.

Once again, the gallery on The Mound will host the ever-popular Turner in January exhibition.

Adeline Amar, from the gallery, was admiring a painting of The Piazzetta, Venice, from the 1840s, as preparations got under way.

Next year’s display is even more anticipated than usual as it coincides with the release of new film Mr Turner.

Directed by Mike Leigh and starring Timothy Spall as the great artist, it promises a dramatic insight in the final 25 years of his life.

Works on show in the Capital have been bequeathed to the gallery by distinguished collector Henry Vaughan and span JMW Turner’s entire career.
