A GAZEBO used by city primary pupils has been completely destroyed after an arson attack.

The blaze occurred in the grounds of Fox Covert RC Primary School in Corstorphine just after 10pm on Sunday night, with the wooden gazebo – which was used as a shelter by pupils during lunchtime and at breaks – reduced to debris.

Liberal Democrat councillor for Corstorphine and Murrayfield, Paul Edie, is a former pupil of the school.

He said: “That’s where I spent seven years of my life and I’m very sad to hear about
that.

“I would appeal for anyone who has seen anything untoward here to come forward. It’s desperately sad because this has been put up for the enjoyment of schoolchildren and they’re not going to have that any more, which is very
unfortunate.”

Drum Brae Community Council leader Reg Kingman, branded the vandalism
“shocking”.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious and that they are investigating.

They have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time of the arson attack or who has any information about it to come forward.
