A WOMAN was pushed to the ground and repeatedly punched after being attacked in Princes Street.
The 20-year-old was near the Waverley Steps in the early hours of Sunday when she was confronted by another woman.
The victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she was treated for serious facial injuries. Two men who intervened in the incident, at around 3.25am, have been asked to contact police.
The attacker is described as white, in her early 20s, around 5ft 6in tall and with a slim build. She was wearing a coloured dress, black jacket and high heels.
Detective Constable Mark Seymour said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault, which has left the victim badly injured. Two men are believed to have witnessed this attack and assisted in breaking up the incident, and we would ask both of these individuals to come forward.”
