Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Edinburgh.

The incident happened around 5.30pm on Monday in the Meadows.

A 32-year-old man was walking along North Meadow Walk when he became aware of two youths following him.

As he reached the tennis courts one of the youths jumped in front of the man and threatened him before demanding he hand over his money. The victim refused and made off across Buccleuch Street, through Gifford Park and on to Clerk Street.

Police are now keen to trace the youths and urged anyone who can assist with their inquiry to come forward.

Both are described as white, between 14 and 16 years old, around 5ft 8ins tall and of slight build.

One was wearing a grey Adidas hooded top and jogging bottoms.

Anyone who was in the area and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police on 0131-311 3131 immediately.
