HEALTH Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has officially opened the new birth centre at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The £2.8 million centre, which opened to patients in October, has six delivery rooms, each with their own birthing pool and en suite bathroom.

It is attached to the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health and offers facilities for mothers-to-be expecting straightforward labours.
