A MALTESE bishop has been appointed by the Vatican to investigate sexual misconduct claims against Cardinal Keith O’Brien.

Charles Scicluna will carry out the inquiry into the former Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh who stepped down last February.

Cardinal O’Brien acknowledged sexual behaviour which had fallen short of what was expected of him as a bishop.
