POLICE are appealing for help from the public to trace a group of thieves posing as officers to rob tourists.

Ten thefts have been reported in the past three weeks involving people impersonating police officers, who wear dark clothing and earpieces and stop unsuspecting visitors and search their bags.

The latest incident came on Wednesday at Magdala Crescent, Haymarket, when a mother and daughter on holiday from Chile had over £1000 stolen from a bag.

Police are searching for an Asian male in his late 30s or early 40s, an Asian male in his mid-40s, and a man of Mediterranean appearance, 30 to 35-years-old.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Houston said: “We would urge members of the public to look out for men who are acting suspiciously, especially around tourists, and contact police immediately the minute they see something untoward.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
