A BOXING match erupted in violence when one of the contestants leapt through the ropes to join in fighting in the crowd.
The brawl broke out part way through the six-bout match at the City nightclub in Market Street.
An online video of the fight between Edinburgh boxers Andy Noble and Derek McGovern, hosted by KO Promotions on Friday night, has attracted tens of thousands of hits.
McGovern is seen trading blows with Noble, then pointing to his corner after a disturbance breaks out.
Witnesses said one of McGovern’s supporters had been accosted at ringside and the footage shows him jumping through the ropes to join the fray. After around 20 seconds, the referee manages to pull McGovern back into the ring, but he leaps straight back into the crowd head-first.
The video continues for another minute, showing both men and women facing off and metal chairs being toppled over.
Former world champion Alex Arthur voiced his annoyance on Twitter. He wrote: “A certain fleet of idiots bringing a huge cringe factor to boxing in Edinburgh. Please stop embarrassing our sport.”
KO Promotions said security staff handled the situation well and those involved in the ringside fighting would be “banned from all shows in future”.
City nightclub said no-one was available to comment.
