THE number of homes sold in the Lothians has risen by almost 48% in the last year.

The ESPC House Price Report for last month from December reveals the number of homes sold in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife went up by 47.5%, the highest level since 2007.

The number of homes going onto the market also increased, by over a quarter.

Average house prices in Edinburgh went up 5% from £202,266 to £212,296.

East Lothian saw a much smaller increase of 0.9% to £188,996, while in Midlothian prices rose 2.3% to £160,983. But West Lothian saw a decline in house prices, with the average dropping 10.4%.
