A CAR overturned at a notorious stretch of road in the Lothians after hitting black ice.
Ambulance and fire crews had to rescue the male driver just after 4am today near the Leadburn junction at West Linton.
It is understood his vehicle skidded on black ice before colliding with the embankment.
All emergency services attended and though paramedics treated him at the scene, he refused to be moved on to hospital.
The stretch of the A701 has been the site of numerous car crashes over the years, and has been the subject of calls for improvement in the past.
