EDINBURGH Castle has been named as one of the top attractions that tourists can find “only in Britain”.
The historic site proved a popular choice among visitors from the US, Canada and Italy in the VisitBritain survey. It came third overall, behind Buckingham Palace and a bird’s eye view of London, in the research, which saw nearly 10,000 visitors take part.
Of those, 19 per cent had Edinburgh Castle in their top three, with seven per cent ranking it as number one.
Patricia Yates, director of strategy and communications at VisitBritain, said: “Edinburgh Castle, an iconic site that dominates the skyline, inspires visitors across the world.
“This new global survey confirms there is a knowledge and desire to enjoy these gems as Scotland gets ready to welcome the world.”
