Two cats have been found dumped at a local beauty spot.

A cyclist discovered the male tabby cats in plastic cat carrier at Beecraigs Country Park near Linlithgow on Monday morning.

The Scottish SPCA is now caring for cats, who have been named Gilley and Gibson.

Inspector Jenni Surgeon said: “The cats have clearly been someone’s pet up until recently as they are both in good bodily condition and very friendly suggesting they have been well cared for up until now.

“However this does not excuse the fact that they have been abandoned, therefore we’d urge anyone who recognises the cats or knows who might have owned them to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
