A CHARITY shop spent the weekend celebrating its first birthday with customers.

Since opening last June, Save the Children’s shop on Morningside Road has generated more than £72,000 of income for the charity.

Over the weekend, customers picked up prizes donated by more than 15 local businesses for a tombola.

Susie Dunstan, Save the Children regional retail manager, said the shop had become a “favourite” with local residents.

She said: “The people of Morningside have been really generous with their donations and an incredible amount of money has been raised in the 12 months it’s been open.

“The money raised from our shops goes towards helping vulnerable children around the world as well as here in Scotland.

“All of our shops are run entirely by volunteers and while we have a great team working, we’re always looking for more people who can give a few hours of their time.”
