MORE than 20 disadvantaged children living with the after-effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster will visit Edinburgh and West Lothian next year.

The youngsters will be welcomed by the West Lothian group of Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, which is organising the visit.

As part of fundraising efforts to pay for the trip for the 21 children, a ladies’ lunch has been organised this month.

It will be held on October 27, between noon and 4pm at the Novotel Hotel in Hermiston Gait, and includes a two-course lunch, drinks, a guest speaker and prize draw.

The Edinburgh West branch of Friends of Chernobyl’s Children began in 2006, before expanding to include the West Lothian branch in 2010.
