A FIRE has badly damaged a popular fast food takeaway in the Capital.

Crews rushed to Chilli Connection in South Clerk Street after an emergency call was received at around 5.30pm yesterday.

They said the blaze appeared to have begun in ducting on the ground floor of the takeaway.

There was no indication of what caused the fire and no-one was injured, they added.

Earlier in the day, a house in Whitson Walk in the west of the city was damaged when a blaze broke out in its attic just after noon.

No-one was hospitalised but medics were called to attend to two adult males, who were checked at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were unable to say what caused the fire.
