TEAM GB’S women’s basketball team are bouncing into the Capital this weekend for two warm-up matches as part of their Olympic preparations.
They will take on Canada in a double-header at Meadow- bank Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison, will host a welcome reception on Friday for both teams.
Ms Robison said: “More people are playing basketball and it is now the third most popular team sport in the UK, behind football and cricket.
“Last year was Britain’s most successful in international basketball history, with the men’s and women’s teams confirming places in the top 16 in Europe. The players we are welcoming are in the final stages of selection for the first GB basketball team to compete at an Olympic Games since 1948.
