MORE than 1,700 council employees from across Scotland have failed to pay their council tax bills.
One of the biggest offenders was City of Edinburgh council workers.
Edinburgh said they only checked the figure every two to three years.
A Freedom of Information request revealed the last time they did - in 2011/12 - they were owed close to £1.7 million by 633 employees out of an estimated total of 15,000.
That works out as nearly 5% of council employees failing to pay their council tax - despite the fact it pays their wages.
