Colinton is one of the latest areas to benefit from the arrival of faster broadband.
BT has confirmed that the area will benefit from the roll-out of next-generation copper broadband, which offers customers internet speeds that are more than double the national average download rate.
Among the 13 other exchange areas included in the infrastructure upgrade programme are Carnoustie, Leven, North Berwick, Glasgow Provanmill and Kelso.
In total, another 67,500 homes and businesses in Scotland are now able to take advantage of the high-speed broadband service, which is now available at more than 130 exchanges across the country.
Colinton councillor Jason Rust said: “This will provide an important boost for local businesses at a time when firms are increasingly reliant on internet access to develop, as well as for local residents. It is fantastic news that Colinton will be at the forefront of the ultra-fast next-generation broadband.”
Almost 1.4 million commercial and residential premises in Scotland are due to be connected by spring 2012. BT is planning to upgrade an extra 32 areas over the coming months.
