THOUSANDS of commuters have suffered train delays or cancellations due to a series of faults over the last two days.

Rail passengers travelling through Haymarket and Glasgow Central this morning and yesterday afternoon were affected.

It is understood that worn out power cables and blown motors have been the cause.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “Yesterday’s infrastructure issues in the Haymarket area resulted in four trains being cancelled outright, ten part-cancelled [not running their full route] and scores of other services delayed due to the ensuing congestion.

“There were 574 delay minutes from that one event.”
