POLICE carried out nearly 8000 searches for drugs in the Lothians over three months, with nearly one in eight proving “positive”.
A total of 7853 searches were conducted between April and September, with 951 netting controlled drugs.
In Edinburgh, 4698 searches produced 598 positive finds while in West Lothian 994 searches uncovered drugs on 116 occasions.
In East Lothian and Midlothian combined, officers had 157 positive results from 1508 searches.
During the same period, 1386 charges of drug possession were made in the Lothians while 250 charges of drug dealing were brought.
