POLICE chiefs recommending the cost-cutting closure of public counters at four Lothian stations have released the results of a survey which found that only eight per cent of residents would report a crime at a station.

A survey of 324 people found that fewer than one in ten would report a crime at a station, with 72 per cent choosing to phone, while just two per cent suggested keeping a counter service as a way to improve engagement with the public.
