Cracking price for JK's egg

A CERAMIC egg painted by JK Rowling fetched £2600 when it went under the hammer at an auction in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Scotland.

The event organised by Make Your Mark (MYM), a charitable young enterprise company formed by senior pupils at George Heriot's School, raised almost 30,000.

The Harry Potter author, who is patron of the MS charity, agreed to paint her own design on an egg for the dinner and auction at The Jam House.

Jennifer Sturrock, MYM's marketing manager, said that the event exceeded all expectations.

Top auctioneer Alex Meddowes congratulated MYM's managing director Andy Robinson and his team, saying: "They did an incredible job."

The auction of 18 lots raised 20,300, with top bids of 2600 for a weekend for 18 people at Cray House in Perthshire.
