An uninsured driver left his number plate embedded in the door of a car he crashed into – then blamed his wife.
Mariusz Szmalec, from Armadale, crashed into two cars as he drove the blue BMW 323i on the wrong side of the road.
The 30-year-old appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to driving dangerously and without insurance.
He also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice by claiming he was not driving the car and breaching bail by failing to appear for trial. Kate Hart, prosecuting, said Szmalec had told investigating police officers that his wife had returned home after driving the car but had then run off.
Szmalec was fined £200 for the bail offence and given 135 hours of unpaid work for the motoring offences. He was also banned from driving for 32 months.
