A Teenage girl had her hair pulled and was forced to the ground while walking her dog in a terrifying assault.

Police are appealing for information following the attack on on a 15 year old girl in Whitburn, West lothian, on Friday, July 25.

The incident took place around 9.45pm when the girl was walking her dog on the footpath in Blaeberryhill Park and noticed a man walking past her. Almost immediately afterwards he grabbed her by the hair from behind and forced her to the ground. After a brief struggle, the suspect made off and the victim called police.

Police are appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed this assault or who may recognise the description of the suspect.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from an older lady who was walking a large, white, fluffy dog and is believed to have passed the suspect just before the assault took place.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, 5ft9in to 5ft10 in tall, medium build, short receding dark hair, stubble under the chin and on the side of his face, wearing a dark tracksuit with zipper top, slightly blackened teeth, a local accent and smelling of alcohol.

DC Dougie Gilmour said: “This assault was terrifying for the victim, but thankfully she was left with only minor injuries. We are appealing to anyone with any information that can assist to contact police immediately on 101. We are particularly keen to hear from the woman who was walking her dog just prior to the attack and who we believe passed the suspect.”
