A THUG who held up a petrol station with an axe has been jailed for more than four and half years.

Dylan Nicholson, 21, was caught by police soon after robbing the Murco service station in Linlithgow Road, Winchburgh, West Lothian, on February 16 2014.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard on Tuesday how Nicolson terrorised garage worker Jade Boyd by wearing a balaclava and wielding an axe at her.

The court heard how he also stole packs of cigarettes during the raid.

After being arrested, the court heard how Nicolson admitted carrying out the robbery.

Prosecution lawyer Adrian Cotttam told the court: “Whilst en route to Livingston Police Station the accused was asked for a contact number to which the accused replied ‘What’s the point, I’m going back in the jail anyway.”

Nicolson, a prisoner of HMP Addiewell, admitted armed robbery before judge Lord Bannatyne.

The judge sentenced him to four years and 253 days in jail.
