Bouncer has glass smashed over head in Grassmarket

POLICE are hunting a man who smashed a glass over the head of a pub bouncer who was trying to stop a fight.

The incident happened in the Black Bull pub in the Grassmarket at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

Police said an altercation between two men broke out and the bouncer intervened to break it up. When he did so, another man hit him over the head with a glass.

The bouncer suffered a cut to his forehead and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspect is white, in his mid 20s, around 5ft 10in with a heavy build. He has short dark hair and was wearing a dark shirt.

He was last seen heading towards Victoria Street with one of the men from the original altercation, officers added.

PC Chris Harding said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the Black Bull pub on Saturday night and who recalls witnessing this assault to come forward.

“We are also keen to hear from the man who was involved in the altercation with the first suspect. Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
