A driver had her car damaged after an object was thrown from a bridge onto a busy duel carriageway in an act of “reckless stupidity”.

The incident happened around midnight last night at the footbridge over the A899 dual carriageway, Mid Calder.

A woman was driving her Honda Civic north along the road when an unknown object was tossed onto the carriageway, striking her bonnet.

The victim was uninjured and the car sustained only minor damage. However, police are conducting local enquiries in the area to trace those responsible.

Sergeant John Jackson said: “Fortunately the driver was not injured as a result of this reckless act of stupidity.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who was in the area of the footbridge in the early hours of Friday morning and remembers seeing anything suspicious.

“In addition anyone with any further information that can assist with our enquiries is asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
