FOUR convicted sex offenders deemed by police to be a “very high risk” are living in Edinburgh, according to new figures.
The four offenders were placed in the highest category for re-offending, the police figures for June showed, out of a total of 613 registered sex offenders in Lothian and Borders.
Of this number, 86 offenders were recorded as a “high risk”, 267 were “medium risk” and 238 were “low risk”.
The four individuals in the “very high risk” category were visited by assessment officers 47 times in total between April and June alone.
A specialist police unit also mounts surveillance operations at locations such as parks, private homes and public toilets to monitor if the most serious offenders are violating sexual offence prevention orders (Sopos).
