A MAN attacked his own grandmother after a drunken Christmas row about money.

Graham McFarlane, from Dumbiedykes, pushed Helen Kirkwood over, then kicked her as she lay on the ground.

The 30-year-old was spotted by two neighbours who called in police, and yesterday admitted the assault in Glen Street on Boxing Day.

Fiscal depute Graham Whyte told Edinburgh Sheriff Court: “Both witnesses observed the accused pushing his grandmother outside the property to the ground and then kicking her to the legs.

“The accused was shouting at his grandmother at the time about money. As a result the two witnesses called the police who attended shortly after.”

Sheriff John Cook deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
