POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a terrifying gunpoint robbery was carried out at a city newsagents.

The incident, which took place at around 10.30am this morning, saw a man enter Your Local Store on Lasswade Road and point a handgun at a female shop assistant, before demanding money from the till.

The suspect, who was last seen turning into Yewlands Garden, is described as being between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build and with short, receding fair or ginger hair.

He is thought to be between 35 and 45 years old and was wearing a grey fleece jacket and blue jeans.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist them with their enquiries to come forward.

Police Scotland’s Detective Constable John McShane said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the member of staff and we are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that can help our investigation to come forward.”
