A taxi driver has been assaulted after being flagged down in an Edinburgh street by a woman.

The 44-year-old victim was driving his black cab on Springwell Place in Dalry at around 2.50am on Saturday by the woman who was in the company of four men.

Two of the men then began assaulting the driver, who fled from his vehicle to a nearby petrol station forecourt.

One of the men being sought stole his takings before the group ran off.

The victim sustained a minor injury to his shoulder and police Office are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The suspects are described as male, white, late teens or early twenties. One was wearing grey and white striped tracksuit bottoms while the other had a dark coloured top with “Hollister California” written on it.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The victim was not seriously injured during the robbery but is understandably distressed at the theft of his money.

“Anyone who was in the area on Saturday morning and remembers seeing anything suspicious, or who has information that can help trace those responsible is asked to contact police immediately on 101.”
