A FORMER headteacher has been accused of attacking two women while they were pregnant.

Derek Curran, who left his post in charge of Castlebrae High School last year, was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

The case, however, was delayed until October.

Curran, 54, is accused of attacking his estranged wife Anne Bergseng and another woman over a 15-year period from 1999 until last year.

It is alleged he attacked Ms Bergseng while she was driving on the City Bypass, in Cambridge Street and in Woodside Terrace. He is also charged with attacking Louise Turnbull at Levenhall Links Park in Musselburgh and in Great Carlton Square.

Another charge accuses Curran of behaving in a
threatening or abusive manner at the Sick Kids Hospital in January last year.

Curran, from Brunstane Road, first appeared in court in connection with the accusations in July last year, when he was released on bail.

The full details of the six charges against Derek Curran are:

n On January 1, 2006 at Cambridge Street: Assault Anne Bergseng, in the knowledge of knowing her to be pregnant at the time, and repeatedly punch her on the body to her injury.

n On April 1, 1999 and April 30, 1999 at Edinburgh City Bypass: Assault Anne Bergseng, and repeatedly push and hit her while she was driving, to her injury.

n Between December 1 and 31, 2007 at Levenhall Links Park, Musselburgh: Assault Louise Turnbull, in the knowledge of knowing her to be pregnant at the time, punch her on the head and body to her injury.

n On February 11, 2012 at Woodside Terrace: Assault Anne Bergseng, grab her shoulders and push, causing her to fall onto the road and push a car door against her back, all to her injury.

n On January 26 or 27, 2014 at Ward 3, Sick Kids Hospital: Behave in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that you did shout, swear, behave in an aggressive and threatening manner, refuse to leave the ward, causing annoyance and placing Anne Bergseng, Catriona Hamilton, Pauline Escott and Stephen McKenna in a state of fear and alarm.

n On May 12, 2014 at Great Carlton Square: Assault Louise Turnbull, seize her by the hair and repeatedly force her head onto the floor, all to her injury.

Curran was at Castlebrae for a large chunk of the 1980s, before becoming headteacher at Forrester High for six years.

He was then parachuted into Castlebrae again last year to reverse its fortunes as it faced closure amid poor exam results and falling rolls.

He introduced a raft of measures to help give the school a boost, including a £30,000 investment to ensure pupils were the first in Edinburgh to be given mini iPads on a whole school basis.
