POLICE are still hunting for two thugs whose bull mastiff dog left a man in need of plastic surgery after a vicious attack.
Jamie Stevenson, 26, was assaulted at around 11am on Saturday on the footpath from Haddington Road to Northfield in Tranent.
He was attacked by both men, who also encouraged their brown dog to bite him on the head.
Jamie’s mother, Sharon, a shop worker, was too upset to talk about the assault. But a family friend was today quoted saying: “It is unbelievable that anyone would let a dog do that. They should be in jail. Jamie’s face has been destroyed. He was just a lovely guy that didn’t want trouble with anyone. His mum is devastated. She has been up at the hospital and can’t believe what happened.
“The police were out banging doors after Jamie was attacked. People think it is disgusting this could have happened and they want whoever did it caught.
“But you know how it can be – sometimes there are witnesses that don’t want to speak up because they are scared.”
Detectives leading the investigation said they did not have any descriptions of the thugs, but believed they may have been seen earlier in a white Vauxhall Corsa, which could have had a black roof.
Police appealed to anyone who can identify the suspects, or saw the incident take place, to come forward.
