A man who carried out a robbery at an Edinburgh bookmakers after threatening staff is being hunted by police.

The robbery took place around 6.45pm on Monday at Ladbrokes on Great Junction Street in Leith.

The raider threatened staff and demanded money, escaping with around £220. He ran off in the direction of Henderson Street.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30-35 years, 6ft 2in tall, slim build, black beard and wearing a padded dark jacket with its hood up and white trainers.

Detective Constable Joe Perkins from Police Scotland said: “We’re looking for any further witnesses to this robbery, which was a frightening experience for the staff involved.

“We’d also like to appeal for anyone who recognises the description of the suspect to get in touch with police by calling 101.”
