A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman in the Meadows last month.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed the man had been arrested and charged following the November 15 incident.

The 19-year-old victim had been walking through Middle Meadow Walk on her way back from the Cowgate and Niddry Street area last month when a man knocked her to the ground near Jawbone Walk and subjected her to a “horrific” assault.

A member of the public came to the woman’s aid, and officers believe the Good Samaritan may have interrupted the attacker and caused him to flee.

Police said the man will now appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday December 22.
