A MAN has been arrested and charged over a spate of robberies which have targeted pensioners in the Musselburgh area.
Police said they had arrested and charged a 40 year-old man in connection with the spate of robberies over the last two months.
The incidents started on Saturday October 4, and the last one took place on Thursday night near the Brunton Theatre.
Police officers from the dedicated Operation Formby team arrested the man this morning at an address in the Musselburgh area.
He will be charged in connection with seven incidents in total and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
Inspector Andrew Harborow said: “We would like to thank the public for their high level of engagement and support, which has played a significant part in the arrest of this man. Whilst this man has been caught, we will continue to deploy additional resources to Musselburgh over the coming days.
“I would like to reassure the community that East Lothian remains a safe place, but would also advise people to take care of their belongings and remain vigilant , especially during the festive season.
“Anyone with any further information regarding these incidents should contact Police Scotland on 101 or through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
