POLICE are investigating after an elderly woman found an intruder raiding her wardrobe.
The woman in her 90s was sitting in her living room in West Calder when a man broke in through her bathroom window.
Despite catching him in the act, he then went through her house and stole money and jewellery before escaping out the window.
Police are now appealing to anyone who can help identify the suspect to come forward following the incident at around 9.15pm on Monday.
The man had a local accent, wore black clothing, a hooded top with the hood up and partially covering his face.
Detective Sergeant Ross Hamill who is leading the investigation, said: “A robust and thorough investigation is now underway in an effort to trace this man as quickly as possible and I would urge anyone who knows the suspect or can help identify him to get in touch.
“This was a despicable and cowardly act that has left his victim unhurt but very shaken.
“I would urge anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area of Mungle Street or Gloag Place around the time of this offence or who has information relevant to our ongoing investigation to contact police immediately on 101. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
