A MAN who fired a shotgun at the home of his ex-girlfriend has been found dead in his cell.

Guards at Glenochil prison, near Alloa, found the body of Kevin Gartland on Tuesday morning.

It is understood that the 24-year-old, who was jailed for seven and a half years at the High Court, took his own life less than two months after his sentence began.

The Scottish Prison Service said that a report will now be sent to the Procurator Fiscal and also confirmed that his next of kin have been informed.

Gartland twice shot through the bedroom window of Robyn Murtagh’s Edinburgh home with a sawn-off pump action shotgun after she split up with him.
