Two metal thieves, who stripped lead from the roof of an Edinburgh youth club causing £5000 of damage were jailed today.

The city’s Sheriff Court was told the value of their haul would have been around £60 had they sold it to a scrap merchant.

Kerr Bruce 22 of Calder Park, and 25-year old Byron Renton of Gorgie Park Close, were jailed for 12 months and 14 months respectively.

The pair had pled guilty previously to stealing the lead from North Merchiston Boys’ and Girls’ Club in Watson Crescent on September 23 last year.

The court heard the roof had only been substantially repaired four weeks before the attempted theft
