A MAN has been assaulted in broad daylight as he walked along a road in Morningside.
The 55-year-old was attacked by two men in Braid Crescent as he walked towards Hermitage Gardens at around 1.15pm on Tuesday.
Police said the men attempted to steal his bag and assaulted him before making off towards Braid Road.
They have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
PC Kevin Walls said: “This was a very distressing and seemingly unprovoked attack on a 55-year-old man and officers are working hard to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“We believe that members of the public or residents on Braid Road may have witnessed the incident and we would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around lunchtime on Tuesday to get in touch.
“We know through our initial enquiries that a member of the public shouted at the two males, resulting in them making off, and as such we are keen for this person to come forward.”
The first suspect is described as white, in his mid twenties, 5ft 8in and of slim build. He has short, brown hair, speaks with a local accent and was wearing a blue Brazil football top at the time of the incident.
The second suspect is described as white, in his mid twenties, 5ft 8in and of slim build. He has short hair and was wearing grey trousers.
PC Walls added: “Anyone with information which may help with our investigation can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, phone the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
