A MOTORCYCLIST who led police on an hour-long chase, which saw him speed across a park while a football match was being played, has been jailed for 13 months.
Steven Mason forced the players to halt the game as he raced across the pitch beside the Jack Kane Centre in Niddrie.
The 22-year-old also waved at officers pursuing him before pulling a wheelie on the bike, but he was caught after crashing into railings on May 7.
Mason, described as a prisoner at Saughton, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing by Sheriff Alistair Noble. As well as the jail term, he was disqualified from driving for eight years.
Mason had pleaded guilty previously to charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance. He had a previous conviction for dangerous driving.
Fiscal Depute, Isabel Clark, had told the court that at one stage Mason drove up behind a marked police car, overtook it and waved at the officers, but he was caught moments later when he struck railings.
