A PENSIONER was attacked after challenging a group of rowdy young men.

The 63-year-old needed hospital treatment for a head injury after the being punched during the incident in Muirhouse.

He had intervened to stop a disturbance in Birnies Court at around 5pm on Tuesday.

The attacker is described as white, male, late teens to early 20s, 5ft 6ins tall with long dark hair and wearing a bright green polo shirt and dark jogging bottoms.

Detective Constable Gavin Howat from the Violence Reduction Unit at Corstorphine said: “The victim sustained a painful injury to his head after being punched to the ground and we are actively pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to trace the male responsible.

“We would ask that anyone who was within the area and witnessed this incident to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this assault should also get in touch.”
